Fruits Basket
Fruits Basket is the story of Tohru Honda, who, due to her mother dying in an accident, is living in a tent. A fateful day, the Sohma's take her in; and she discovers that they are cursed with the twelve animals of the zodiac, plus the cat! Despite this, the head, Akito, doesn't erase her memory, and allows her to live with them. Tohru meets many members of the zodiac, and discovers things that could change her life forever.
Kagura Sohma
She's the boar of the zodiac, and is two years older than the main trio. To begin with, she's determined to marry Kyo even if he refuses, and she has a very deep and guilty reason for liking him to start with, before it turned out she really did love him. She has a split-personality, as she can be calm one moment and raging around from her boar personality several minutes later (it's nowhere near as bad as Haru's mood changes, though). She's a very interesting character, and turns up in the series every now and then, and usually it's for something important.
Why
I positively adore Kagura. I've always loved her, right from when she showed up, but recent manga editions made it far more obsession. When she first showed up in the manga, it was about the time when I was starting to understand it. I saw her as this cute little girl, but then she stormed in and killed Kyo. That, is what makes her awesome (and even though I didn't really like Kyo at that point, it's not that part). She's not afraid to fight for what she wants. I like her even more now in ways; the way she felt so guilty about playing with Kyo/the reason she forced herself to 'like him' and came out and told Kyo that. She's really brave. She cried so hard afterwards as she realised, even though it began forced, she really did love him. I loved her more than ever when she said 'there's no need to worry about me. I've just been a very selfish girl'. That put her right up there with my favourite bishoujo.
Not Pretty Enough
I had a big of a struggle coming up with a name for her. I wanted something that got across the pain she felt, and what she's like underneath her curse in the zodiac. I wound up back on 'Not Pretty Enough' after a while, which is the first song I heard that relates to Kagura, and probably the one I associate as her theme. It fits so well with her, in my opinion, throughout the entire series, so I decided to name the fanlisting after it.
